Award-winning journalist Mobeen Azhar spent the first eighteen years of his life in Huddersfield, a place that he remembers as a calm and friendly town. Returning to Huddersfield to report on the death of Mohammed Yassar Yaqub, who was shot dead by police on an M62 slip road in January 2017, Mobeen soon realises that there is a darker side to his hometown and a bigger story to tell.
Much of the access on this documentary and the contributors you see was hard fought and gained on the ground through perseverance from the team and Mobeen. This allowed for genuine moments of frustration and elation. The larger story of crime in Huddersfield was developing while we were on location with numerous events unfolding during our time in Huddersfield giving the series an extra layer of authenticity.
